The former World No 1 announced his retirement from badminton after 19 years in the sport. Following a recent consultation with his doctor, Lee decided to hang up his racket, leaving behind a legacy of a hugely successful career that boasted 69 singles titles and three Olympic silver medals.
Badminton fans around the world will surely miss his actions, especially his trademark cross-court smash, skillful net play and lighting reflexes. The competitiveness in him which was reflected in the rivalry on the court with Lin Dan will be remembered forever.
